PAS-3043 – CHRISTIAN PREACHING II

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

            An application of homiletical principles and practices through preaching.

            NBC Prerequisites: Christian Preaching I.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The following are competencies for Ordination Course of Study which are achieved by this course: [req.]

            1. Ability to exegete a passage of Scripture using the steps of historical, literary, and theological

                        analysis used in exegesis. (CN-17)

            2. Ability to speak coherently and cogently in the modes of discourse appropriate for the various

                        ministry contexts. (CP-3)

            3. Ability to prepare, organize, and deliver biblically sound sermons in culturally appropriate

                        Ways using appropriate techniques and skills. (CP-22 Elder, CP-22 Deacon Chaplaincy)

            4. Ability to develop and utilize existing ministry forms such as evangelistic preaching, pastoral

                        Care preaching, doctrinal/teaching preaching and preaching Christian seasons/calendar

                        by which individuals, families, and congregations may be formed in Christlikeness. (CP-

                        23 Elder, CP-23 Deacon Chaplaincy)

            5. Ability to assess the strengths and weaknesses of current homiletical models in light of

                        Enduring theological (Bible, doctrine, philosophy) and contextual (history, psychology,

                        sociological) perspectives. (CP-24 Elder, CP-24 Deacon Chaplaincy)
